NSS raises objections to UGC regulations on appointment of college Principals
The HinduThe Nair Service Society has raised objections to the draft regulations issued by the University Grants Commission regarding the minimum qualifications for the appointment of Principals in Arts and Science colleges. In a submission before the secretary of the commission, NSS general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair demanded permission for filling the post of Principal through promotion based on the criteria of seniority-cum-fitness, in compliance with prescribed qualifications, and by a selection committee constituted as per the UGC norms. Mr. Nair pointed out that the parent university Acts governing colleges in Kerala provide for the appointment of Principals through promotion. “The constitution of a selection committee as per the regulations, requiring representatives from both the Vice-Chancellor and the government, is a cumbersome process,” the petition argued.
