TMC to oppose Election Laws (Amendment) Bill linking Aadhaar with voter ID

Trinamool Congress will oppose the Election Laws Bill 2021 linking Aadhaar with voter ID tomorrow in Parliament. Sukhendu Shekhar Ray, AITC national spokesperson, on Friday said the party condemns the way Parliament has been taken for a ride and will oppose this Bill on Tuesday, demanding to refer the matter to the Select Committee. Trinamool Congress lashed out at the government for introducing and passing the Election Laws Amendment Bill 2021 linking Aadhaar with voter ID in the Lok Sabha. In a statement, Sukhendu Sekhar Ray said that neither the Bill has been scrutinised by the department related Parliamentary Standing Committee nor the government has legislative competence to enact such a law in view of the Supreme Court’s judgment in Putuswamy Case, whereby the limits of use of the Aadhaar card was restricted.
