After assembly win, BJP to face first litmus test in Assam as 5 seats face bypolls
India TodayAfter its triumph in the recent Assam assembly elections, the ruling BJP will face its first litmus test in the state on October 30 when it faces bye-elections for five assembly constituencies. In the last Assam assembly elections, Congress stitched a pre-poll alliance with AIUDF and BPF and Congress won Thowra and Mariani seats while AIUDF won Bhabanipur and BPF won the Gossaigaon seat. The bye-elections in the five Assam assembly constituencies have been necessitated after the BPF MLA of Gossaigaon and UPPL MLA of Tamulpur constituency died due to post-Covid complications and the MLAs of Thowra, Mariani and Bhabanipur switched to BJP. BJP MLA and Deputy Speaker of Assam assembly Dr Numal Momin said that BJP and its ally party will win all five seats and will further increase the tally.
