Face masks ‘hot item’ at London Fashion Week amid virus fears
Al JazeeraSome designers changed or cancelled their shows due to factory shutdowns in China as global coronavirus worries spread. Fashionistas sported face masks and clutched their hand sanitizers at Friday’s opening of London Fashion Week in what is expected to be a lacklustre turnout as the world reels with growing anxiety over the coronavirus outbreak. The annual gathering is taking precautions against the spread of the virus by making “hygiene a priority”, assured British Fashion Council Chief Executive Caroline Rush. London Fashion Week is also working to ensure that Chinese journalists, buyers and social media influencers unable to attend can still join in by promoting content and encouraging conversations on Chinese social media platforms Weibo and WeChat, Rush told Reuters News Agency. With a reputation for being a launchpad for bold new designers, London Fashion Week is also showing collections from established brands such as Burberry and Vivienne Westwood.
