Settle issues of 1971 war: Bangladesh's Muhammad Yunus to Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif
India TodayBangladesh's interim leader, Professor Muhammad Yunus, met Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Egypt's Cairo and said he had "agreed to strengthen relations" with Islamabad. According to a statement from the office of the Chief Adviser, Professor Yunus emphasised the importance of resolving the longstanding issues stemming from Dhaka's 1971 bloody separation from Islamabad. In response, Prime Minister Sharif expressed optimism about enhancing the relationship between Pakistan and Bangladesh and stressed the need for a strategic partnership, describing Bangladesh as a "brotherly country". Both men "agreed to strengthen relations between the two countries through increased trade, commerce, and exchange of sports and cultural delegations", as per the statement from Yunus' office.
