After trading Jonnu Smith to the Falcons to clear cap space at the start of the week, the Patriots landed a big tight end target, which will offer them flexibility in what formations they’ll use in Bill O’Brien’s offense. On Friday morning, the Patriots agreed to terms on a one-year deal with former Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki reportedly worth up to $9 million. Gesicki, 27, struggles as a run blocker, so it’s probably best if the Pats steer runs away from him, but he can be a big boost in the passing game.
