DMK to show off unity in alliance
Chennai: A felicitation for Chief Minister M K Stalin has been organised on Friday, on the eve of his 72rd birthday, with leaders of 23 alliance parties, including Makkal Needi Maiyam founder Kamal Haasan and Mukkulathor Puli Padai founder Karunas, offering their greetings on stage and expressing their support to the DMK’s latest stand on issues like the Union Government’s proposed three-language policy and delimitation. To be held at the YMCA ground in Kottivakkam on East Coast Road, the birthday celebrations is expected to see the allies, both electoral and otherwise, reaffirm their faith in the leadership of Stalin in guiding the alliance to yet another victory in the 2026 Assembly election in the backdrop of a whispering campaign of a possible split in the DMK-led alliance. Apart from the speculations on the alliance partners possibly looking for other coalitions as they were unhappy with the way they were treated in the present set up, the one-year-old Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam of Vijay had predicted a drastic realignment of political forces for the next Assembly elections. Since the TVK, which is too keen on going to the polls in an alliance, as spelled out in the maiden conference itself, and the AIADMK that has been scouting for allies after walking out of the BJP-led NDA could throw bait and even promise more seats to the smaller parties, many of them might shift loyalty by leaving the DMK, political pundits have been forecasting on television debates and in public discourses.
