However, its rapid rise has triggered serious concerns about data security, censorship and AI reliability—issues that carry significant implications for India’s digital landscape and national security. If Indian businesses or government agencies integrate DeepSeek’s AI into their operations, they could inadvertently expose sensitive data to potential cyber threats. Given the tensions between New Delhi and Beijing, especially over border disputes and cyber-security threats, the risk of Chinese-controlled AI systems shaping public discourse cannot be ignored,” said a China observer, adding that should DeepSeek’s AI enter India’s digital ecosystem—whether through business applications, social media integrations or educational tools—it could become a vehicle for disinformation, subtly influencing narratives in a manner that favours Chinese interests. On the other, adopting DeepSeek’s models could increase dependency on Chinese technology, mirroring past concerns that led India to ban Chinese apps such as TikTok and WeChat over security risks.
