TN Budget 2024: DPR for Kovai, Madurai metro projects submitted, but will Centre fund?
New Indian ExpressCHENNAI: Touching upon the metro rail projects of the state, Minister for Finance Thangam Thennarasu on Monday announced that the state has allocated a total of Rs 12,000 crore coming financial year for Phase II work of the Chennai Metro Rail project. He also announced that the detailed project reports for the metro rail projects in Coimbatore and Madurai have been sent to the Union government for approval on equity-sharing basis. According to the budget announcement, the DPRs for Metro Rail along Avinashi and Sathyamangalam Road in Coimbatore at a cost of Rs 10,740 crore, and one in Madurai connecting Thirumangalam and Othakkadai at Rs 11,368 crore have been sent to the Union government for approval. Meanwhile, the finance minister said the DPR for extending the metro rail route from Chennai airport till Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus in Kilambakkam at an outlay of Rs 4,625 crore has been prepared.
