Breonna Taylor: Attorney for officer fired in the shooting death of Taylor says termination was premature
CNNCNN — The attorney for Brett Hankison, one of the former officers involved in the shooting death of Breonna Taylor, said in an appeal letter last week that the termination of his client was unfairly premature. Hankison is one of three officers involved in the shooting death of Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT who was shot eight times by police when they broke down the door to her Louisville apartment while executing a warrant in a narcotics investigation. Hankison violated standard operating procedure when his “actions displayed an extreme indifference to the value of human life” when he “wantonly and blindly fired ten rounds” into Taylor’s apartment, Schroeder wrote in the letter. One day later, attorney David Leightty, who is representing Hankison, wrote an appeal letter to the Louisville Metro Police Department stating that his client shouldn’t be punished until the facts of the case are in, noting that investigations by the Kentucky Attorney General, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Kentucky State Police were incomplete.
