Australian Open 2023: No. 2 Ons Jabeur crashes out after losing to Marketa Vondrousova
India TodaySecond seed Ons Jabeur was knocked out of the Australian Open 2023 on Thursday after a sloppy performance against former French Open finalist Marketa Vondrousova in the second round of the women's singles. Jabeur saved some face by breaking the Olympic silver medallist when she was serving for the match for the first time, but Vondrousova broke straight back to move on to a third-round meeting with fellow Czech Linda Fruhvirtova. Vondrousova, who is left-handed, reached the French Open final as a teenager in 2019 but has never advanced past the fourth round in 17 Grand Slam appearances. She was sidelined for six months following her first major final appearance at Roland Garros 2019, and then for another six months last year as she recovered from surgery.
