Andhra Tribals Seek More Navodaya Schools
Deccan ChronicleVisakhapatnam: Voicing concern over the dearth of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti Schools; especially in tribal areas, Rama Gopal Gaduturi, president of the Indian Confederation of Indigenous and Tribal Peoples, Andhra Pradesh, shot off a letter to Union minister of education Dharmendra Pradhan, and urged him to set up 13 more such schools for ensuring quality education in the state. Speaking about the shortage of Navodaya Vidyalayas in the state, Gaduturi, said, “After the allocation of one additional Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti School in Prakasam district and the other in Yetapaka in 2008-09, no new schools were sanctioned in the state for the past 15 years.” After the formation of new districts in 2022, the state now has 26 districts, up from the previous 13. In those districts having a large population of OBCs, and SC/ STs, there should be a provision of additional Navodaya schools,” he added. Earlier, a provision for the Navodaya school was granted in the Alluri Sitarama Raju district, a tribal dominated area.
