Cauvery technical team to visit Tamil Nadu on October 9-10

Thanjavur: The High-level Central Technical Committee constituted by the Centre to assess the ground realities in the Cauvery basin on the direction of Supreme Court is likely to visit Mettur dam and delta districts on October 9 and 10. The technical committee headed by G S Jha, chairman of Central Water Commission began its nine-day field visit of Cauvery basin from Mandya in Karnataka on Friday. Farmers of Cauvery delta districts of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam are in need of water to sustain samba crop taken up under direct sowing. The committee have to submit a report to Supreme Court by October 17 after assessing the ground realities in the Cauvery basin with Karnataka refusing to release more water sighting failed South West Monsoon while Tamil Nadu hoping to save at least samba crops.
