Sanctions shine spotlight on chaos causer in Hong Kong

China Daily

A view of the Victoria Harbor in Hong Kong. The US government on Friday expressed its deep concerns about the convictions of 14 lawbreakers in Hong Kong under the National Security Law of Hong Kong, saying it's taking steps to impose new visa restrictions on officials from both the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong who are responsible for the implementation of the legislation. The law enforcement agencies of the Hong Kong SAR always take law enforcement actions in accordance with the law, regardless of the political stance, background or occupation of those suspected of committing a crime. The National Security Law of Hong Kong was introduced to safeguard national sovereignty and the nation's security interests, and to ensure Hong Kong's long-term peace, stability and prosperity. The US government should abide by the principles of international law and the basic norms of international relations, earnestly respect the spirit of the rule of law, and cease maliciously interfering in Hong Kong affairs.
