Esperance surfers call for urgent action on shark control after another close encounter

A close encounter with a white shark near Esperance has left surfers "shaken" and renewed calls for the WA Government to take urgent action on shark control. Key points: Esperance has seen three fatal shark attacks in three years Another close call on Thursday left surfers and beachgoers shaken Local groups have called for lethal drum lining immediately after a fatal attack The incident came only weeks after local man Andrew Sharpe was killed while surfing at the nearby Kelp Beds, the region's third fatal attack in three years. 'You need to know straight away' Mr Robbs said his parents reported the incident by calling the number on the Shark Smart website. 'We're asking for a balanced mitigation strategy' In the wake of the most recent tragedy, Esperance Ocean Safety and Support group founder Mitch Capelli called on the Government to green-light SMART drum lining immediately after a fatal attack and humanely kill the shark if it is identified as the one responsible.
