Michigan expected to hire Greg Scruggs as D-line coach, LaMar Morgan as DBs coach

Michigan is expected to hire Wisconsin’s Greg Scruggs as its defensive line coach and Louisiana defensive coordinator LaMar Morgan as defensive backs coach, team sources confirmed to The Athletic. Scruggs, 33, coached one year at Wisconsin after serving on Luke Fickell’s staff at Cincinnati from 2018 to 2021, first as director of player development and then as defensive line coach. Along with defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, the Chargers announced the hiring of defensive line coach Mike Elston, defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale, defensive assistant Dylan Roney and senior defensive analyst Rick Minter on Wednesday. Scruggs was instrumental in helping Wisconsin to land defensive lineman Jamel Howard late in the 2023 recruiting cycle and served as the primary recruiter on all three of Wisconsin’s 2024 defensive line signees, including four-star Ernest Willor Jr. Wisconsin’s next defensive line coach would have a big task on his hands to develop trust and to make his linemen more impactful playmakers.
