Record crowds attend local Anzac day dawn services

Record crowds have taken part in dawn services in the Illawarra, South Coast and Southern Highlands to mark the centenary of Anzac. "A century after that fatal morning in April 1915 if those original Anzacs, those people from places such as the Illawarra could return to witness the current ceremonies, they would be flattered and probably embarressed," Commodore Kafer said. Commodore Kafer used his address to urge people to care for returned service men and women suffering post traumatic stress disorder. "Whilst it is right and proper we focus especially on honouring the original Anzacs, I also ask that you remember today the veterans of susequent conflicts, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice or returned home with serious phsyical or psychological wounds," he said. "We are now only really beginning to realise the impact of the afflication know to Gallipoli veterans as shell shock which we now know as post traumatic stress disorder."
