Over the past few weeks, Ganguly's name has come up significantly during discussions surrounding the ICC top post, which is currently being held by another former BCCI president Shashank Manohar. In an exclusive chat with India TV, BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal said: "We have not decided who will go to ICC for the chairman post, will have to wait and watch." Last week, former South Africa captain and currently CSA's Director of Cricket, Graeme Smith named Ganguly as one whose 'credibility' and 'leadership skills' can take the game forward.
