
Residents protest demanding immediate closure of waste processing plant
The HinduBengaluru Residents staged a protest today, calling for the immediate shutdown of the MSW Processing Plant at Chikkanagamangala after inspection reports from Joint Committees formed as per the National Green Tribunal orders in 2019 and 2022, highlighted severe operational lapses. Madhu N. N., Joint Commissioner, South Zone, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike joined the protest and assured residents that she would escalate the issue with the BBMP Chief Commissioner and other authorities within a week. However, she clarified that while corrective measures would be taken, relocating the plant would only be considered after the promised four integrated waste management parks become operational. Pranay Dubey, a resident, while talking to The Hindu, said the protest reflects growing frustration over the plant’s impact on the environment and public health.
