Pain at the pump? L.A. County’s average gas price hits $5.84 a gallon
LA TimesAfter gas prices declined for 98 days in a row in Los Angeles County, the trend reversed course last week. Los Angeles County’s average gas price continued to rise Monday as a gallon of regular fuel hit $5.84, up 5 cents from the day before, American Automobile Assn. After gas prices declined for 98 days in a row, the trend reversed course last week amid supply issues due to snags at refineries across the West Coast and Midwest, according to AAA. “A slew of unexpected refinery disruptions, including fires and routine maintenance, have seemingly all happened in a short span of time, causing wholesale gas prices to spike in areas of the West Coast, Great Lakes and Plains states — and some of those areas could see prices spike another 25-75 cents per gallon or more until issues are worked out.” De Haan also said that Tropical Storm Ian, which is expected to hit Florida with rain and high winds, could disrupt refiners and further contribute to the gas spike.
