Bhima Koregaon case: Supreme Court extends house arrest of activists till September 19
India TV NewsThe Supreme Court on Monday extended till September 19, the house arrest of five rights activists, in connection with the Bhima Koregaon violence case. The court said it will examine two days later, whether there is material supporting the arrest of the five rights activists. The house arrest of the five rights activists - Varavara Rao, Arun Ferreira, Vernon Gonsalves, Sudha Bharadwaj and Gautam Navlakha was extended at their respective homes by a bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra. The bench which, also comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud said, “every criminal investigation is based on allegations and we have to see whether there is some material.” It may consider pleas like investigation by a Special Investigation Team in the case, in case of some grave lapses, the bench added.
