Social media video sparks swift action to clean waste in Kanniyakumari
The HinduA social media video featuring a foreigner condemning the action of dumping of waste here prompted the local body to take swift actions to clean the area. Every year this stretch sees hundreds of temporary shops, including food stalls and other vendors, during Sabarimala season in Kanniyakumari, which is considered the peak season of the tourist spot. An official from the Kanniyakumari town panchayat said that the district administration had already issued orders prohibiting the installation of shops along this road, as they obstruct the scenic view of tourists visiting to experience the sunset. The official said that the district administration organised a mass cleaning initiative in Kanniyakumari in partnership with the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, which will take place within a few days.
