Malcolm Turnbull under pressure to continue Tony Abbott's focus on Indigenous affairs
ABCAs peak Indigenous groups prepare to meet at Federal Parliament today, the man appointed to head Tony Abbott's Indigenous Advisory Council, Warren Mundine, has expressed hope the portfolio will continue to be prioritised under Malcolm Turnbull. Mr Mundine was appointed to chair the Indigenous Advisory Council when Mr Abbott came to office in 2013 to consult on the wide range of changes that were being planned. While the future of the Indigenous Advisory Council is not certain, Mr Mundine met with representatives from the Prime Minister's department, Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion and parliamentary secretary Alan Tudge in Canberra yesterday. Mr Mundine said he felt "comfortable" after those conversations but made it clear he wanted Indigenous affairs to remain "front and centre" regardless of the leadership change.
