Coronavirus vaccinations to be offered to West Australians aged over 50 from next week

West Australians aged over 50 will be eligible to be vaccinated against COVID-19 from next Monday. Key points: The AstraZeneca jab will be used, with clinics to be set up across Perth GPs will be able to give the vaccine to those aged over 50 from mid-May Four new coronavirus cases have been recorded in WA hotel quarantine WA Premier Mark McGowan said the jabs would be available at mass vaccination clinics at Perth Airport and the Claremont Showgrounds, with extra mass clinics to be set up in Joondalup in Perth’s north and in Kwinana in the southern suburbs. Health Minister Roger Cook encouraged people eligible to book an appointment through WA's 13COVID telephone line, to help manage the number of people seeking vaccination at the mass clinics. Mr Cook said combined with the Commonwealth rollout in WA, which included those vaccinated by general practitioners, more than 200,000 West Australians had received at least their first jab. Mr Cook said WA had struggled with people cancelling their appointments for the AstraZeneca vaccine, but he said that was not the case with the Pfizer jab.
