Kerala rains: Five districts on red alert for extremely heavy rainfall

Kerala remains on high alert with the India Meterological Department warning that the northern and central districts are likely to receive very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall on Monday. In a 10 a.m. weather update, the IMD put northern districts Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on red alert for extremely heavy rainfall. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in a Facebook post, urged the people in these districts to remain alert, as short-duration, high-intensity rainfall could trigger flash floods and waterlogging in low-lying regions. According to the IMD update, heavy rainfall is likely to continue in some central and northern Kerala districts till at least December 4.
