Amit Shah takes charge as Union home minister

Newly appointed Union home minister Amit Shah took charge on Saturday afternoon, two days days after taking oath of office, at the Capital’s North Block. Shah was welcomed at the ministry of home affairs by Intelligence Bureau director Rajiv Jain and Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, amid airtight security. Shah, who is also the current president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, takes over as the Union home minister after former home minister in the first NDA government, Rajnath Singh, took over as the Union Defence minister on Friday. The Union home ministry is also dealing the mammoth exercise of the National Register of Citizens in Assam, while also awaiting the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill also awaits passage in the Rajya Sabha.
