UDF demands judicial inquiry into stadium incident

The Hindu

Councillors of the Opposition United Democratic Front disrupted the Kochi Corporation Council meeting on Friday demanding a judicial inquiry into the mass dance event held at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium at Kaloor during which Uma Thomas, MLA, fell from a makeshift stage and sustained serious injuries. The UDF councillors had moved a resolution demanding judicial inquiry, and as the meeting was underway, they launched a protest shouting slogans and holding up placards and blue ribbon as a symbolic representation of the blue queue manager to which Ms. Thomas had tried in vain to hang on to while falling down. Even Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president K. Sudhakaran had expressed satisfaction over the ongoing probe and had not yet demanded a judicial inquiry, Mr. Anilkumar told the media. Congress councillor Deepthy Mary Varghese has alleged that the Mayor passed sly innuendo while she was speaking in the council about the incident in the stadium.
