Hyperloop TT gets Italy deal, giving Elon Musk’s transport vision a jolt of energy
LA TimesElon Musk congratulates winners of a hyperloop competition at SpaceX’s hyperloop track in Hawthorne in 2017. Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, one of the startups trying to build the high-speed transportation system dreamed up years ago by Elon Musk, won a bid to build a prototype in northern Italy. The Venetian Motorway Concession, a regional highway operator known as CAV, has awarded HyperloopTT and its partners an 800-million-euro three-part tender that could eventually lead to a hyperloop along at least a portion of the 25-mile route from Padua to Venice, HyperloopTT said. Last month, state media reported that the Chinese Academy of Engineering, which provides advice to the government, selected a route between the coastal cities of Shanghai and Hangzhou as the best site for China’s first city-to-city hyperloop.
