Live LawAbetment of suicide Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code provides that whoever abets the commission of suicide of another person, he/she shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term not exceeding ten years and shall also be liable to fine Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provides that if any person commits suicide, whoever abets the commission of such suicide, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine. Attempt To Commit Suicide Section 309 of the Indian Penal Code provides that whoever attempts to commit suicide and does any act towards the commission of such offence, shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year or with fine, or with both. Section 226 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provides that whoever attempts to commit suicide with the intent to compel or restrain any public servant from discharging his official duty shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year or with fine or with both or with community service.
