Karnataka: Dam levels slightly up but no reason to celebrate yet

Mysuru: Thanks to good rains in the catchment area of four reservoirs in the Cauvery basin, the water levels have slightly improved ever since water flow was temporarily stopped into the river leading to Tamil Nadu on September 20. At Harangi, the water level increased from 2841.32 feet on September 20 to 2851.45 feet on Wednesday as against its capacity of 2,859 feet. Water level at KRS has increased from 85.20 feet on September 20 to 88.50 feet on Wednesday, as against its capacity of 124.80 feet. At Hemavathi the water level increased from 2874.04 feet on September 20 to 2875.47 feet on Wednesday as against its capacity of 2922 feet. Ever since the state started releasing water on September 7 to Tamil Nadu following the first verdict of the Supreme Court, at KRS the water level had dropped from 93.73 feet on September 7 to 85.20 feet on September 20, when water was stopped temporarily following widespread agitations in the Cauvery basin.
