Rajasthan impasse in a nutshell: Gehlot unrelenting, Venugopal mediating, Kharge waiting
India TodayFrom Diwali to Christmas or Boxing Day: the date and timing of a possible change of guard in Congress-ruled Rajasthan seem to be shifting constantly. AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal with Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Congress leader Sachin Pilot and Rajasthan Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra Informed party sources said Pilot, who was reportedly tipped to take over the reins in October this year, was reportedly told to be patient and let the Rahul Gandhi-led yatra pass off peacefully from the only Congress-ruled state falling under the 3,637-kilometre-long route from Kanyakumari to Srinagar. Venugopal, who is perceived to be close to Rahul Gandhi and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, has reportedly conveyed the leadership's resolve to fulfill the ‘unfinished agenda’ of September 25, 2020, when the two central observers -- Ajay Maken and Kharge -- were prevented from ascertaining views of the party MLAs. Kharge, however, wants Gujarat polls to conclude where Gehlot has been hand-holding the party’s campaign and his close confidant Raghu Sharma is AICC’s point man. Kharge’s indecisiveness has reminded some old timers what former Punjab chief minister Partap Singh Kairon had reportedly told Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru.
