Surge in M-Sand price affects construction projects, lorry operators across T.N.
The HinduThe recent surge in the price of M-sand has significantly affected construction activity across the State, with costs doubling in about a month. Members of the Southern Lorry Owners Welfare Association said that the escalating prices of construction materials such as M-sand, P-sand, and blue metal left 90% of the 75,000 lorries idle without work. According to association president R. Munirathinam, the cost of M-sand escalated from ₹650 per tonne to ₹1,250 since February. S. Yuvaraj, president, Tamil Nadu M-sand Lorry Owners Association, said only a few manufacturing units had the e-way bill system. Public Works Department officials, which certifies M-sand crusher units for product quality, say its high-level assessment committee have provided voluntary product quality certificates to 460 M-sand manufacturers across the State.
