The HinduThe Delhi police on Tuesday opposed the bail pleas of several accused in the 2020 north-east Delhi riots before the Delhi High Court, saying that the violence was a result of “clinical and pathological conspiracy” executed with a “diabolical intention and ruthless intensity”. The police opposed the pleas of activists Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam and others, who are seeking bail in the case under Unlawful Activities Act for allegedly being the “masterminds” of the February 2020 riots, which left 53 people dead and over 700 injured. ‘Maze of evidence’ Mr. Sharma on Tuesday argued that when the trial court had already gone through the “maze of evidence” and examined the accusation to deny relief to the accused, the High Court ought not disturb the case’s prima facie foundation.
