IIT, DU among top institutes set to welcome 500 Syrian students as part of govt's 'Study in India' programme
India TodayThe Government of India is all set to bring 500 Syrian students to admit them into top institutions under their 'Study in India' programme. International students in Indian institutions Currently, India has a lot of international students that take admission in its institutions, which are as follows: 94 students from Syria 2,275 students from Nepal 751 students from Ethiopia 635 students from Bangladesh This data is taken from All India Survey on Higher Education. Target of Indian Government Future plans: By 2023, the government of India aims to have 2,00,000 international students studying in the country By 2023, the government of India aims to have 2,00,000 international students studying in the country Current scenerio: Around 45,000 foreign students are studying at this point in time 'Study in India' 'Study in India' programme was launched in April this year which aims at bringing students from countries in South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa to top institutions in India. Effects of Syrian war on common people According to UN, almost five million Syrians have had to leave the country and take shelter in neighbouring nations like Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, and Turkey Six million more people left their homes to find a safer place in Syria itself Children are unable to go to school which is adversely affecting their education In this situation, coming out of the war-torn nation and securing their future in India seems like a better option for them.
