How stray dog menace is getting out of control in Kerala
India TodayThe menace of stray dogs has been haunting Kerala for long. I appeal to the government to begin high-level monitoring of stray dogs and offer the best medical care to those attacked.” With the rabies deaths threatening to hurt the government’s image, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has directed the health minister to set up a panel to study the potency of the anti-rabies vaccine distributed through the Kerala Medical Services Corporation. He has also directed local self-government bodies and the health and animal husbandry departments to make joint efforts to tackle the stray dog menace. Some of the reasons for the rising stray dog population are poor management of waste, inadequate sterilisation of stray dogs and shortage of the anti-rabies vaccine. Biju has filed a PIL in the Supreme Court demanding directives to the Kerala government to end the stray dog menace and save poor people from rabies deaths.
