Shiv Sena(UBT) seeks menu cards in restaurants in the Marathi language
The HinduAfter mandatory Marathi boards outside the shops, Shiv Sena demands for menu cards in restaurants and eateries to be in the Marathi language as it is not a norm in Maharashtra compared to other states. Shiv Sena functionary Krishna Pawle wrote a letter to the Mumbai city collector to instruct the restaurants and eateries owners to provide menus in Marathi. In the letter, he said, “In other states, local businessmen, shopkeepers, and hotel owners prefer the local language while giving their wiki payments as well as their menu, unlike Maharashtra, where the situation is opposite, hotel owners here use the English language for the menu.” The letter also comes after senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader Suresh Bhaiyyaji Joshi commented that a person coming from another state to Mumbai need not learn Marathi. “We are not against any language, but being in Mumbai and in Maharashtra, and Marathi being the mother tongue of the people, we should instruct all the business owners in our jurisdiction to include Marathi in their wiki payments, food menu, and other domains to maintain the honour of our language and the state,” Mr. Pawle said adding this is an attempt to honour the Marathi language and Marathi society or it will be a grave insult to the 106 martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Marathi language.
