Federation urges regularisation of part-time teachers in Tamil Nadu’s government schools

The Hindu

The Tamil Nadu Part-time Teachers’ Federation has urged the authorities to regularise the jobs of over 12,000 part-time teachers who are employed in 7,000 government schools across the State. According to the federation, approximately 500 part-time teachers work in government schools in Tiruchi. “The part-time teachers work on an 11-month contract, with no benefits such as insurance or provident fund, besides stepping in for extra duties throughout the academic year. Part-time teachers were appointed in 2016 to teach subjects such as Physical Education, Art, Tailoring, Horticulture, Computer Science and Life Sciences in government schools, to expose students to co-curricular activities.
