TN aspires for 50 Percent power from renewable energy sources
Deccan ChronicleChennai:Under the guidance of Chief Minister M K Stalin, the State would generate 50 percent of its electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030, which would be way ahead of the target fixed by the Union Government to generate 43 percent of electricity from renewable energy sources. An official press release said on Friday that work was on to ensure that electricity production from renewable energy sources was increased along with the conventional sources and the State supplied power to the industries that provided job for the youth at the lowest rate in the country. The measures by the government would lead to the State becoming independent in electricity production by taking care of its entire needs and also emerging on the top in using renewable energy sources for electricity generation. By 2030, an additional 100 billion units of electricity would be produced through solar and wind energy sources, besides other renewable energy sources like pumped storage projects, battery energy storage systems and bio-mass co-gen, the release said.
