Fire crews sent to NT remote communities as separate bushfire rages south of Tennant Creek
ABCFire crews have been sent to remote communities south of the Northern Territory town of Tennant Creek as a number of bushfires continue to rage in the area. Key points: A Watch and Act remains in place for the bushfire east of Tennant Creek Volunteer firefighters from South Australia will help strengthen containment lines Crews are also battling a separate fire threatening communities south of the town Emergency crews have been fighting a major bushfire situated east of the town, which has been burning for more than a week, as well as a separate, smaller fire to the south that has been threatening the communities of Epenarra and Canteen Creek. Speaking to the ABC's Country Hour on Thursday afternoon, Bushfires NT chief fire controller Tony Fuller said a back-burning operation had now been started around 200 kilometres south-east of Tennant Creek. Interstate firefighters arrive A group of 19 volunteer firefighters and seven vehicles from the South Australia Country Fire Service arrived in Tennant Creek on Thursday morning to help local crews to strengthen containment lines.
