Telangana earthquake: 5.3 magnitude quake jolts Mulugu, tremors felt in Maharashtra’s Nagpur
The HinduA magnitude 5.3 earthquake on Richter Scale that originated 40 km below ground in the Eturnagaram forest area of Telangana was felt in central and northern India at 7.27 a.m. Tremors were experienced in several parts of the erstwhile Warangal district around 7:29 a.m. #Munigala Sudarshan Reddy, an 86-year-old former Village Development Officer, Nallabelli village, recounted witnessing a chair and table shaking. Meanwhile, a youth from the Nandi… https://t.co/ggD0IekHGK — Laxma Reddy December 4, 2024 “The epicentre of the earthquake is confined to the Godavari fault system and its vicinity where several earthquakes in the past happened and it is therefore, the zone of strain energy release and occurred at the deeper layers that caused the lesser degree of shaking than expected due to dissipation of maximum seismic energy at the deeper depth,” says a preliminary analysis by the NCS. The preliminary fault plane solution obtained from waveform inversion suggests that the dominant mechanism for the event was normal faulting with minor strike-slip component, indicating the causative source of the event,” said the NSC.
