Wineries feeling impacts of wet weather as Murray River flooding restricts access to Wahgunyah vineyard blocks

Winemakers across the Victoria/New South Wales border region say they hope to see a turnaround in the weather soon as wet conditions play havoc with vineyards. Key points: Local wineries say some vineyard blocks have gone under water and will reduce harvest yields One winemaker says he can only access one of his vineyards by boat Winemakers are also concerned the water may result in the problem of downy mildew Wineries set up along the Murray flats in Wahgunyah have seen some vineyard blocks become submerged as more flows make their way down the Murray River. Nick Brown, director of All Saints Estate, said they had to reduce harvest yields at two of their blocks due to water inundation — one at All Saints and another at their sister vineyard, St Leonards. Mr Pfeiffer said he was also worried about the impacts water inundation had on addressing downy mildew concerns at the vineyards. "It's a little bit worrying because this weather has created disease pressure in the vineyard," Mr Pfeiffer said.
