Jacoby Brissett passes his first test, putting the Colts closer to finding their long-term franchise quarterback

CARSON, Calif. — Jacoby Brissett, it appears, is full of surprises. Brissett’s patience was rewarded a few minutes later, when he stayed with his first read and hit Hilton for what looked like a short gain from the 19-yard line with 48 seconds left. “He’s supposed to be tackled for a 2-yard gain and the clock’s supposed to keep running,” Brissett said. “It was great for me to see it,” Brissett said, “because, to be honest, I wanted to throw it deep when I saw in the back, and it’s hard to pass that up. That’s the sign of a quarterback who has a mastery of the offense, something that Brissett has gained during the past two offseasons, functioning as the team’s primary starting quarterback during Luck’s injury-related absences.
