South Australian MP Nick McBride quits Liberal Party, citing 'dark forces' and factionalism

ABC

South East MP Nick McBride has left the Liberal Party, claiming "dark forces" in party factions created an environment of "disunity" and backstabbing. Mr McBride said the people of MacKillop would be best served by an independent member "who isn't aligned to a particular party". Through a statement, an opposition spokesperson said it was "disappointing" Mr McBride decided to leave the party "despite reassurances in recent weeks he would remain a Liberal and was dedicated to the team". Labor MP Tom Koutsantonis said the Liberal Party has failed to keep Mr McBride, who holds "the safest seat" in parliament.
