Deccan Chronicle

Nellore: Vice-President, Venkaiah Naidu has called upon the people's representatives and leaders to set aside their political affiliations and pay special attention to development. Mr Venkaiah Naidu addressed the gathering after inaugurating the Necklace Road constructed on the banks of Nellore Tank at a cost of Rs 30 crore under Amrut scheme near Irukalala Parameswari temple on Wednesday. “Though I was offered plum portfolios, I had chosen rural development in the Centre with an objective to develop infrastructure in the rural areas” Mr Venkaiah Naidu said. He dwelt at length on various institutions sanctioned at his instance for Nellore region including NIOT, Regional Institute of Education, Kamadhenu scheme, Skill Development Centre, four major roads under Sagara Mala scheme, CBIC, VCIC, Rs 1,100 crore estimated underground drainage and water supply improvement scheme for Nellore among many other projects. Mr Narayana said he was fortunate to become urban development minister when Mr Venkaiah Naidu was in the same post at the Centre and this had helped him to implement many development programmes effectively.
