SC judge recuses self from hearing plea on Abdullah’s detention

The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned hearing on a plea challenging the detention of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah under the Public Safety Act as Justice M.M. A new bench of the Supreme Court will on Friday hear the plea by Abdullah’s sister Sara Abdullah Pilot. “The grounds for the detention order are wholly lacking any material facts or particulars that are imperative for an order of detention,” the plea said, adding that the detention order is illegal. A dossier, justifying the imposition of the draconian PSA, said Abdullah’s “considerable influence” over people, as well as his ability to attract voters to polling booths during the peak of militancy, is a case for his detention under PSA.
