AIADMK alleges model code violation by CM Stalin during Erode East bypoll

The AIADMK on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India and Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu alleging “violation of model code of conduct and indulgence in electoral malpractices” by Chief Minister MK Stalin during the recently held bypoll to the Erode East assembly constituency. The complaint, which was filed by lawyer IS Inbadurai, stated that on February 25, two days prior to the date of polling, CM Stalin had made various “legally impermissible statements that tantamount to multiple violations of the Model Code of Conduct as laid down by the Election Commission of India”. CM Stalin was campaigning for Congress candidate EVKS Elangovan during the recently concluded Erode East bypoll. “It is imperative that the Election Commission should take strict action against the concerned officials who were in-charge of conducting and overseeing the bye-election in question, including the District Election Officer/ District Collector, Erode and the Returning Officer of the constituency in question, for their failure to take appropriate and necessary actions promptly in accordance with the Model Code of Conduct, so as to ensure a free and fair election,” the complaint further said.
