As BJP members quit to join AIADMK, a question mark on Annamalai's style of functioning

Thirteen Bharatiya Janata Party functionaries from its IT wing quit the party to join the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on March 8. Though analysts say this might not end up being a big setback for the BJP, they suggest that it does raise questions about the leadership style and functioning of BJP's Tamil Nadu chief K Annamalai. While members from the Tamil Nadu BJP unit accused the AIADMK of poaching its leaders, K Annamalai brushed aside the exodus and stated, “I am very happy that a former CM of Tamil Nadu wants to take a second-level, third-level, fourth-level and fifth-level functionary from the BJP, and personally welcome them into his party.” The movement of members from one party to another is quite common in politics, say political observers, citing the example of former AIADMK MLA Anbalagan who joined the BJP in December. Political observers state that targeted allegations against Annamalai are emanating due to various factors and the BJP needs to address these concerns if it wants to see the party’s continued growth in Tamil Nadu. As for K Annamalai, it is clear that the road ahead is tricky for him in Tamil Nadu since he needs to re-work his strategy, leadership style and way of functioning within the BJP.
