Indian Green Card holders facing scrutiny, expulsion threat in US. 5 big points

India Today

Strip search, intense interrogation and hawkish scrutiny is what Green Card holders are facing in the US with President Donald Trump walking his talk on immigration policy. Fabian Schmidt, a German national and Green Card holder, was detained and "violently interrogated" by the US immigration authorities when he returned to the US on March 7, according to a Newsweek report. A Times of India report highlighted the growing concerns among US immigration attorneys over increased scrutiny of Green Card holders, particularly elderly Indians, at US airports. Florida-based immigration attorney Ashwin Sharma told TOI that elderly Indian Green Card holders, "particularly grandparents who happen to have spent a bit longer outside the US", are being coerced into signing Form I-407 to "voluntarily" surrender their permanent residency. The crackdown on Green Card holders is also part of the US President's larger policies on immigration, which emphasised stricter enforcement and increased scrutiny of lawful permanent residents.
