House GOP Hardliners Threaten Government Shutdown Over Baseless Illegal Voters Bill
Huff PostLOADING ERROR LOADING A group of hardline House Republican conservatives and libertarians named their price Monday for keeping the government open past Sept. 30: passage of a bill against illegal voting that most experts say isn’t needed. “Furthermore, the Continuing Resolution should include the Act — as called for by President Trump — to prevent non-citizens from voting to preserve free and fair elections in light of the millions of illegal aliens imported by the Biden-Harris administration over the last four years,” the House Freedom Caucus said in a social media post. “Any short-term spending bill MUST include the SAVE Act,” posted Rep. Andrew Clyde “It’s imperative that we prevent illegals from voting in our elections before it’s too late.” “Let’s prevent illegals from voting on Nov 5, and let the will of the American people be reflected in how the government is funded next year,” posted Rep. Bob Good, the chair of the group who recently lost his reelection bid in his party primary. House Speaker Mike Johnson, in an op-ed for Fox News, called on Senate Leader Chuck Schumer Monday to bring up the bill in the Senate but he stopped short of endorsing the idea of making its passage a condition to keep the government open.
