Afghanistani Woman, Her Sister Approach Bombay High Court Seeking Protection From Family After She Married Hindu Boy

Live Law

Two Afghanistani national women, who are facing life threat from their families as one of them married a Hindu man from Haryana, have approached the Bombay High Court seeking police protection and also a direction to the authorities in Delhi close a criminal case lodged against them at the behest of their family members. A division bench of Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Dr Neela Gokhale, however, noted that the Mumbai Police has been providing them protection, as prayed for since June last year, after the two sisters along with one of their husband, wrote a letter to the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai. Therefore, the girls, along with the Hindu boy initially petitioned the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking police protection and they were protected. We are also informed that presently even the Mumbai Police have granted police protection to the petitioners and that the same will be continued till the said threat persists," the bench recorded in their order passed on January 3.
